The Benefitfocus Wheel

Several years ago we developed the Benefitfocus Wheel. It's made up of four quadrants that are integral to our corporate culture:

Living

Wellness Programs. Benefitfocus strives to encourage healthy lifestyles. The goal of our wellness initiatives is to introduce programs that help develop and maintain healthy behaviors that can be maintained for a lifetime. Our programs have introduced physical exercise with corporate bicycles, walking stations in every corporate location, and seasonal programs like Benefitfocus Boot Camp, iGetFit/iWin and yoga.

Learning

Lifelong Learning. Benefitfocus culture places an emphasis on lifelong learning. We provide the tools and resources you’ll need to continue your professional development. Associates are encouraged to participate in our tuition reimbursement program for business related undergraduate and graduate courses. We also offer educational opportunities ranging from one hour On Topic sessions highlighting relevant business technologies to six month Management Development Programs that lay the foundations of communications, finance, leadership and more.

Become a Subject Matter Expert.
Benefitfocus also offers assistance for professional certifications including PHR (Professional in Human Resources), GBA (Group Benefits Administrators), and CPP (Certified Payroll Professionals). We provide courses both onsite and through video conferencing, including topics in management and professional development programs, such as:

Communications
Finance
Marketing
Anticipatory service
Quality assurance

Focus Time. Associates on our technology team take one day each month to dive into the areas that pique their interests, helping to further their knowledge, advance their careers and develop some pretty incredible technology in the process.

Examples of recent Focus Time Projects include:

Learning Apple Cocoa Touch to develop iPhone applications
Developing a test-driven development strategy to incorporate into development and release deployment code
Writing a custom PLSQL package that supports assertions and accounts for Benefitfocus’ native processes

Lunch and Learns. Take some time to pursue a passion that has nothing to do with your profession. Our guest speakers have guided our golf swings, revealed our inner talent for floral design and suggested manners for man’s best friend.

Community

A Time for Giving. Benefitfocus encourages associates to give back to their community. We work closely with area charities like the Trident United Way, Lowcountry Food Bank and American Red Cross to provide community service and fundraising projects throughout the year.

Spirit

Celebrate! When was the last time your peers threw you a party to thank you for your efforts? The goal of our Spirit Council is to reward and motivate associates by celebrating their accomplishments. One of our favorite celebrations is our software release parties. We say thank you to our technology teams by hosting creative theme parties for each software release. Our parties have included a St. Patrick’s Day theme in the spring, a Disco theme in the summer, a Tailgate theme in the fall and a Winter Wonderland theme. Each quarter, we create a unique concept to ensure that every release is a special occasion.

We also involve our families in our celebrations. A great example of this is our classic Halloween Party. Every year, we go all out by decorating, dressing in costumes and having a fun atmosphere for kids. They get to walk through our office, see witches and goblins, hear ghost stories and eat some yummy candy. Check out more of our spooky pictures on Facebook.
